Energy storage systems for Wind and solar Power Integration to Grid Kumar Harshitha S., Kishore K. Udaya, Kumar A. Sudheer Solar Business Unit, Larsen & Toubro Ltd., Chennai Online published on 3 September, 2019. Abstract It is recognized that renewable energy sources need to be part of the energy mix for a sustainable future. With the rapid growth of renewable energy sources, it will be a big challenge to operate the power system with high wind or solar power penetration securely and reliably due to inherent variability and uncertainty associated with these resources. With the flexible charging-discharging characteristics, Energy Storage System (ESS) is considered as an effective tool to enhance the flexibility and controllability not only of a specific Solar or/and wind farm, but also of the entire grid. The paper gives a brief overview on the importance of Energy Storage Systems for wind and solar power integration to grid. Top Keywords Renewable energy (RE) sources, Energy Storage System (ESS), Battery Energy Storage System (BESS). Top | |
