Seed dormancy and germination in Ipomoea clarkei. hook. F. Sangle S. M. Department of Botany, Rajaram College, Kolhapur-616 004, Maharashtra, India Online published on 27 August, 2019. Abstract Mechanical scarification of the seeds of Ipomoea clarkei resulted in 100% seed germination with average germination time of 3.40 days. The Synchronization index (0.137) and Germination index (5.47 day) were also higher than that observed in chemical treatment. On an average the germination rate (0.294), uncertainty of germination process (2.52 bit), coefficient of variation in germination time (50.85%), coefficient of velocity of germination (29.41%) and time to 50% germination (3.50 day) were minimum due to mechanical, rather than chemical scarification. The length of radicle and seedling due to the treatment of mechanical scarification was greater than that observed with chemical scarification.
