Online published on 29 November, 2017. Abstract Introduction Menopause is a natural condition that most women experience as they age. Menopausal transition is the time of an increase in follicle stimulating hormone (FSH) and increased variability in cycle length, 2 skipped menstrual cycles with 60 or more days of amenorrhea (absence of menstruation), or both and the gradual period of change leading into menopause. The menopausal transition concludes with the final menstrual period (FMP) and the beginning of post menopause. Aim To assess physical and psychological problems during menopause transition among women in a selected rural setting of district Hoshiarpur, Punjab. Materials and Methods Non-experimental descriptive design was used for present study. Purposive sampling technique was used to select the sample. The rating scale was used to assess physical and psychological problems during menopause transition. Tool had 3 parts; demographic data, rating scale to assess physical problems and rating scale to assess psychological problems during menopause transition among women. Results The results of the present study concluded that majority of subjects i.e. 98% had mild physical and 96% had mild psychological problems during menopause transition. Physical and Psychological problems during menopause transition among women showed moderately positively correlation. Conclusion The study concluded that women during the menopause transition were suffering from both physical and psychological problems and both physical and psychological problems were also positively correlated to each other. The most common physical problems of menopause transition are hot flushes, back pain, loss of interest in sex, painful intercourse and weight gain around the waist and thighs. Among the psychological problems of menopause transition mood swings, irritability and forgetfulness are commonest. Top Keywords Menopause Transition, women. Top |
