Abstract

A field experiment was conducted during kharif season, 2001 to identify the weed problems in soybean. Fluchloralin, Pendimethalin, alachlor were used with different doses (i.e. at 1.0, 1.5 kg/ha), hand weeding 20 and 40 DAS against weedy condition were evaluated. All the weed control treatments effectively controlled the weeds. However, hand weeding at 20 and 40 DAS was found to be the best in reducing weed biomass over all other treatments. Although alachlor and fluchloralin at 1.5 kg ha−1 reduced the weed biomass markedly compared with weedy plot but both were found inferior to 2 hand weeding at 20 and 40 DAS. As regard grain yield two hand weeding at 20 and 40 DAS again was found to be the best treatment amongst the rest, while in the herbicide treatments it was observed that alachlor at 1.5 kg ha−1 as pre-emergence was found effective, proved profitable and comparable with 2 hand weeding at 20 and 40 DAS.
