Humus-Soil Mineral Studies Different Aspects - A Review

Abstract

Humus stabilizes a large pool of terrestrial carbon on the surface of soil minerals. Its burial in soils over millions of years caused expansion of metazoans, and pedogenesis of clay-minerals. Humus burial increased oxygen content in the atmosphere that helped in evolution. Studies on humus-soil mineral interfaces are of great significance in the context of global warming. Such studies have opened up new vistas in exploring interface images, bonds, and bonding strength, and promise to help developing new protocols for soil management for food and environmental security.
