Incidence of pests and avoidable yield loss in jute, Corchorus olitorius L. Rahman S.1, Khan M.R.2 1Department of Entomology, Assam Agricultural University, Jorhat - 785 013. 2Department of Agril. Entomology, B.C.K.V. Mohanpur, 741 252, India. Abstract Among the pests, jute semilooper, hairy caterpillar, stem weevil, grey weevil and yellow mite were found to be the major pest causing economic damage in jute. Maximum plant infestation caused by grey weevil (27.6%) while stem weevil caused the minimum (13.8%) damage in unprotected plots. Spraying with endosulfan 35EC and dicofol 18.5EC reduced the infestation of insects and yellow mite significantly. Avoidable tosses in fibre yield due to multiple infestations by the pests were found to be 33.5 and 30.7% in 2004 and 2005, respectively. Top Key words Avoidable yield loss, Corchorus olitorius, Pest incidence, Yield loss. Top | | | |
