Abstract According to NCERT (1999), adolescence education has been defined as an educational endeavour to provide learners with accurate and adequate knowledge about adolescent reproductive health with a focus on the process of growing up during adolescence in its biological, psychological, socio-cultural and moral dimensions. It aims at inculcating in them rational attitude towards sex, phenomena of HIV/AIDS and drug abuse, so that they develop respect for the opposite sex and responsible behaviour towards sex and drugs. The broad content areas of adolescence education are: (1) Process of growing up, (2) HIV/AIDS, and (3) Drug abuse. A research study was conducted “To Study the Impact of Adolescence Education Activities on the Awareness Level of Students regarding Adolescence related issues-the Process of Growing up, Drug Abuse, HIV/AIDS”. Null hypothesis was used for this study. The study is confined to the boundaries of one district of Haryana State that is Sonepat only. Students of only class X were selected for the study. A Sample consisted of 50 teachers and 1, 000 students chosen from 25 Schools of Sonepat, District (Haryana) selected randomly from schools whose Principals earlier attended awareness programme. All these 50 teachers had attended the five days intensive training programme in Adolescence Education, conducted by the SCERT, Haryana. Two teachers from each selected Govt. School (one PGT General Science and one PGT Social Science) were invited to attend the training programme in Adolescence Education. Then 1, 000 students studying in class X taught by the sampled teachers were selected for the study. In case there was more than one section, then any one section was selected. Data were collected from 1, 000 students of these 25 Govt. Schools. From each school, an effort was made to select 40 students, but in some schools it was not possible due to fewer numbers of students in the selected class and section. The tool used was a questionnaire which is a test developed by Population Education Unit, NCERT and translated in Hindi by Population Education Cell, SCERT (Madhya Pradesh). Questionnaire for students can be divided into three parts: 1. Background Information 2. Awareness test 3. Attitude Scale (not covered in this paper) This paper discusses genesis of concept of adolescence, need of adolescence education and the research study shows a substantial change in the awareness level of students related to adolescence related issues after attending adolescence education programme.
