Abstract The paper studies the labour force in the organised retail chain in shopping malls by focussing on their job training process. Limiting the study to the women employees in the organised retail sector, it shows how there is an attempt to use women's bodies as a site for the production that assimilates with the spectacle that the shopping mall constructs. Linking these modern spaces of work, the paper also attempts to look at these women in the spaces of their personal lives and what are the negotiations that they have to make to be a part of these new emerging work opportunities.
