Abstract Traditional marriage of the Bodo is a union of male and female not only to satisfy biological needs but also contained religious element. Different methods have been practiced by the Bodo to acquire a mate however, the arrange marriage which is called Swngnanwi Lainai Haba is the most approved form of marriage. In early days the Bodo were strictly endogamous. In the social milieu of the Bodo, polygamy is very rare. Monogamy is general rule. Child marriage is unknown to them. Marriage generally takes place when girl attained at the age of puberty. Remarriage of widow or widower has been sanctioned by the society.
