A Study on Employee Effectiveness: Role of Emotional Intelligence

Abstract

Studying different aspects of an employee's characteristics as an intellectual asset has become important for organization as it can help to find out effective and efficient employees and that contributes to the overall development of the organization. Emotional intelligence is one of the aspects which focus on employee's capacity of recognizing their own emotions, others’ emotions and managing them. Studying this aspect of employees can help the organizations to select and recruit the effective employees. Effectiveness means doing the right things or occupying oneself with the right things. Employee stability, effectiveness and retention for a longer span are the crucial issues for IT/ITES industry. Primary objective of this study is to measure employee effectiveness through emotional intelligence. The study is considering various demographic details and its relationship with the various aspects of emotional intelligence. In this study, researchers wanted to know the employee effectiveness through checking their emotional equilibrium by using one's self-reliance, empathy, managing self and relations. Descriptive-single cross sectional research design has been followed with snowball sampling technique. Sample size of the study was 300 employees, out of which 150 employees were from IT field and 150 employees from ITES field. SPSS and Microsoft Excel was used to perform statistical analysis.
