The Status of Women Empowerment in Nagaon District of Assam Nath Lakhimi1 1Lecturer, Department of Economics, Dr. B.K.B. College, Puranigudam, India, lakhimi89@rediffmail.co Online published on 7 April, 2017. Abstract Women constitute half of the population of India. Having such a huge number the status of women is not same as their male counterparts. From early period women have been facing various kinds of domestic, social, political violence in the society. In the present paper an attempt is made to study the status of women empowerment. The geographical area selected for the study is Nagaon district of Assam. Since decision making power and freedom of movement of women are two most important components of empowerment, therefore, in the present paper women empowerment is measured with the help of two indicators, i.e. decision making process within the family and freedom of movement outside home. Primary data have been used and a sample of 300 women is selected for conducting the study. Data are collected through household survey through direct personal interview method.
