Abstract Flower pollination is a fascinating progression in the world based on pollination process of plants. Its evolutionary features can be used to widen new optimization techniques and algorithms. In this paper, a new algorithm called Flower Pollination Algorithm (FPA) is to be considered for optimizing the power system problems which is stimulated by the pollination process of flowers. Test functions are used to validate the new algorithm adopted in two area deregulated power system. This algorithm is used to tune and to determine the gains of the controllers in deregulated systems.
