Abstract The ports as an industry accounts for 3% of the global greenhouse gas emissions. Sustainable initiatives and zero net energy goals are driving the use of renewable energy sources, such as solar photovoltaic, wind, and other alternate source systems. Understanding the present scenario, the Ministry of Shipping, Government of India is keen to promote the use of renewable sources of energy at all the major ports across the country. However the intermittent nature of renewable energy sources makes it difficult to match the power generation with the varying demand pattern. The present work aims to overcome the above said challenge through hybrid power generation along with energy storage concept. The decentralisation of electricity generation provides a new economy by promoting and facilitating the uptake of Renewable Energy (RE) and Green fuel locally towards the development of eco-friendly green port.
