High School Online published on 2 August, 2016. Abstract The need to express and understand each other is imminently important in the present scenario of globalised environment. However, research shows that each language is unique and houses in itself different ideas related to its culture. This paper presents phrasal verbs as a means to express one's own cultural shades of meaning and to appreciate other cultures and languages. Also, phrasal verbs suitable to Indian contexts have been coined as examples to prove this point with the hope that these newly coined Indian phrasal verbs will be accepted to enrich the English Language.
