Abstract Organisations potential to innovate is associated with its intellectual capital and ability to harness knowledge resources. Knowledge based economy of our age is predominantly driven by information. This has given the business organizations of the new economy unlimited avenues for growth and at the same time battling cut throat competition from their competitors. It is in this context Intellectual capital assumes great importance as it adds value to the enterprise, and is instrumental in giving competitive advantage to firms. Intellectual capital has become a burgeoning topic in scientific research. The emphasis has shifted from understanding of intellectual capital to its measurement, management, reporting and its ability to nurture innovation and improve performance and value creation for the organizations.
