Variation in the Flexural Property of Concrete with Partial Replacement of Fine Aggregate with Granite Powder

Abstract

Aggregates are the major contribution to develop any concrete mixture. In general, aggregates are used as a filler material in concrete and cement as binder. Studies and experiments were conducted to identify suitable materials which can replace coarse aggregate and fine aggregate and also shows a better performance than conventional materials. In this regards, the present study deals with the utilization of granite powder as a partial replacement for fine aggregate. Granite powder is added in 25, 50, 75, 100% replacement with fine aggregate and specimens were casted. The study also focuses to develop a concrete mix targeting high strength concrete mix combination. Evaluation of flexural properties was made by casting prism specimen with difference in percentage replacement of fine aggregate, water/cement ratio and age of curing. To enhance the workability property super plasticizer is also used. The test results shows irrespective of the variation in water/cement ratio it is observed that mix with 25% replacement exhibit a better performance than other mixes. From the study, it is concluded that maximum 25% replacement can be made with granite powder as fine aggregate.
