Abstract This study primarily focuses on problems faced by Private Medical Practitioners in outpatient services of Vellore district, Tamilnadu. This study is confined to “for-profit” hospitals only. Multi-stage random sampling technique was employed to collect the data. Both primary and secondary sources of data were used in this study. It is both descriptive and analytical in nature. Statistical tools such as factor analysis, cluster analysis, chi-square test and regression analysis were used to analyse the data. It is found that out of 335, 122 respondents have faced less problems, 111 respondents have faced moderate problems and 102 respondents have faced more problems related to outpatient services. It is also found that only six socio-economic variables such as monthly income, experience, potential to enhance practice, basis for selecting present profession, future goal and bank loans have significant relationship with problems related to outpatient services.
