Abstract Work Engagement, Boredom and Burnout are the three well-being factors which is found common among the workers/employees. Recent research establishes that these well being factors are also found among the students. The current study examines whether the need satisfaction or personality traits contribute more in explaining the well being factors. From a sample of 570 students, it was found that need satisfaction explains the well being factors more than the personality traits of the students. The study was carried out among Medical science, Engineering science and Management students. It is found that the personality traits-conscientiousness, agreeableness and neuroticism were significant related to the well being factors and consistently found related to well being factors among Medical, Engineering and Management graduates. All the three need satisfaction variables-autonomy, competence and relatedness were significantly related to the well being factors and were found significant among all the students. Thus, the results indicates that though some of the personality variables explains the well being factors, the need for autonomy, competence and relatedness explains well being more.
