Abstract This paper deals with the stability improvement of induction generator based wind energy conversion systems. To improve stability and to maintain the voltage profile at the Point of Common Coupling in the grid, a new topology of Cascaded H-Bridge (CHB)-Multi Level Converter (MLC) based STATic COMpensator (STATCOM) is proposed. The dynamic behavior of the fixed speed wind energy conversation system is investigated and the modeling techniques for Cascaded Multi Level Converter (CMC) based STATCOM are proposed. The proposed system is modeled and simulated in MATLAB/SIMULINK software. Simulation results are presented for cases with and without STATCOM which shows the superiority of the proposed CMC based STATCOM model Top Keywords Induction generator, Point of Common Coupling (PCC), Fault Ride Through (FRT), Low Voltage Ride Through (LVRT), reactive power compensation, STATCOM.
