Abstract This paper describes an experimental study of using pongamia oil(PM) and waste plastic oil(PO) used as a fuel in diesel engine without changing anymodification to the engine. Pongamia oil has become more attractiverecentlybecause of its better quality exhaust emission and environmental benefits. In this work 90% plastic oil and 10% pongamia oil, called here as POPM10 and 80% plastic oil and 20% pongamiaoil, called here as POPM20 and 70% plastic oil and 30% pongamia oil calledPOPM30 were used in a single cylinder four stroke, air cooled diesel engine. The present investigation to study the performance, emission characteristics were analyzed and compared with plastic oil anddieselfuelindiesel engine. The experimental result showed that the smoke, carbon dioxide emissions& unburned hydrocarbons reduced, and the brake specific fuel consumption (BSFC), brake specific energy consumption& oxides of nitrogen were increased..
