Abstract This is an exploratory research to ascertain the design information management in AECI, the path of design, design data and information's flow through supply chain partners along project development life cycle of AECI. This required the study and survey of: The various phases of Project development life cycle; the nature and relationships in AECI; the supply chain partners and their stage of influence in Project development life cycle; organization structures of the firms and industries chosen for case studies and survey; commitment levels of workforce; shortcoming of AECI industries; technological influences; interdependencies in AECI; the way design is handled and developed; the way design is managed through supply chain partners; the way information and data are managed though project development life cycle; the reach of design information as evaluated during post occupancy; differed meaning of “value” by engineers and architects, among the many other information's. To come to conclusion on all the above aspects literature studies, surveys and case studies were carried out in over 30 AECI organizations. Firms/industries were selected based on: number of projects they handled in a year; type of AECI whether it is consulting, contracting or both-as outsourcing affected the project largely; the type of technologies used by them for dissemination of design information and data. The survey took into consideration the willingness of the AECI to adapt to technological and constructional environmental change, and the variation in the understanding of the term “value”. Conclusion of the research enumerates the various shortcomings of the industry and what needs to be done further to ensure unobstructed design, design data and information's flow through supply chain partners along the project development life cycle of AECI.
