A Study on Strategic Attitude of Individual Investors in Mutual Fund Investment Decisions

Abstract

Background

The mutual funds is one of the most interested and inquisitive area for investors how always want to create massive wealth in the shortest time phase since funds are the most wonderful category of financial instruments and one of the greatest tools ever invented for building financial wealth. Risk averters and persons lacked in investment expertise are widely choosing mutual funds as investment outlet. It implicit intention is to make decisions regarding strategic attitude on fund selection, returns harvested during a time frame and withdrawal options in the investment process.

Objective

This study was carried out with the intention of checking demographic profile of investors, strategic attitude on fund selection, type of funds preferred, and type of funds and return generated, and type of funds and withdrawal options on mutual fund investments.

Results

Demographic factors plays significant role in the selection of type of funds. Selection of mutual funds primarily based on funds past performance, reputation of fund manager and scheme's expenses are bearing significant impact on changing the strategic attitude of individual investors. Investors opted to invest in equity, debt; gilt, money market funds etc, and this study confirmed that there is no significant different growth and dividend option in selection of mutual funds. Individual investor's reveals that there is no association between types of funds invested and return generated over a period of time. Similarly, there is no association found in withdrawal plans and type of funds invested.

Conclusion

In conclusion, individual investors not revealed any difference in the selection of mutual funds in respect of funds options, returns over a period towards different funds and withdrawal options as to different funds.
