A Study on Faculty Performance Management Practices in Higher Education Institutions

Abstract

With the sprit in the number of educational institution in the state of Tamil Nadu, India, the availability of qualified staff member and a system to monitor their performance has emerged as a vital issue to cater to the growing need of the field. The purpose of this study was to assess faculty performance management practices followed in higher education institutions in Tamilnadu. A total of 100 faculty members contributed their opinions on the relevant performance management system. Data were collected by presenting structured questionnaire of respondents. Percentage analysis, rotated component matrix and Friedman test were used to analyze the data. Results indicated that these faculty members believed that developing a performance management system with five heads such as, personal traits, teaching tools, academic performance, creativity, and institution development activities enhance increased performance and reputation of the institution.
