Abstract This study evolves the significance of the perception towards VRS among BSNL employees who are eligible for retirement benefits and after retirement benefits (Pension). Hence, the study confronts to find out the reasons that stimulated the employees to opt pre-retirement. Within the adult development and aging field, successful adaptation is viewed as the individual's efforts at maintaining a sense of continuity (Datan, Rodeheaver, & Hughes, 1987; Lazarus & Delongis, 1983). Continuity in this instance refers to an individual's ability to maintain psychological equilibrium by successfully linking the experience to present circumstance and then to future goals. Erikson, and Kivnick (1986), in particular, have emphasized the importance for people to possess meaningful goals and a clear life purpose to achieve a sense of well-being. Holahan (1988), for example, found that life goals were the strongest predictor of psychological well-being, accounting for almost 50% of the direct and indirect effects in a group of 65-75-year-olds.
