Abstract

Wife beating is a fact of everyday life for many women. However, it is a problem that has rarely been systematically studied. This paper uses a case study method to study the issue of wife beating of women working as domestic workers in a small semi urban area Doraha in a progressive state of Punjab. The qualitative evidence indicates that while wife-beating seems relatively common, the most severe cases occur when husbands are in a drunken state.
