Impact of Bodh Gaya Movement on Gender based Violence in the Post 1970 period in Bihar Dr. Sinha Somika Independent Researcher, Jawaharlal Nehru University, (in past) Online published on 2 May, 2015. Abstract Gender based violence is a major injustice done to women in the society. Since Bihar has the highest incidence of gender based violence, this study is an attempt to examine the phenomenon in the state. Bodh Gaya Movement has been taken up to analyse the state of affairs of gender based violence in the state. The Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act in India is a laudable piece of legislation that was enacted in 2005 to tackle gender based violence. The legacy of voluntary action that was the working ideology of the Bodh Gaya movement, is continuing in Bihar. Thus the study proposes that the proper implementation of the Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act can be facilitated under the legacy of voluntary action which can curb the gender based violence in the state.
