A Study on Personal and Service Profile of Anganwadi Workers in Barnala District of Punjab Kular Sarbjit Singh Assistant Professor, Guru Gobind Singh College, Sanghera, Barnala, India Online published on 4 April, 2015. Abstract Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS) has been operating in the parts of Punjab for decades. Present study was conduct to examine the personal and service profile of Anganwadi Workers in Barnala district of Punjab. For this purpose, all three ICDS projects operating in Barnala district namely Barnala, Sehna, Mehal Kalan were selected. Further 10 Anganwadis each from Barnala, Sehna and Mehal Kalan ICDS project were selected randomly. In order to reach out the ultimate sampling units, 30 Anganwadi Workers (AWWs) were selected by selecting one worker each from sample Anganwadi. The study showed that a majority (79.99%) of AWWs were aged between 26–45 years, which was very suitable age for effective functioning as AWWs. 39.99% of AWWs had done graduation or post- graduation and a majority (86.66%) were married. It was sad to find that 53.33% of AWWs did not receive any refresher training periodically. The wages of Anganwadi Workers were meager, which may be the reason for only (19.99%) having service of more than ten years. Only 6.66% of the AWWs had high job satisfaction.
