Analyzing the Pronunciation of Some English Consonant Sounds by Arabic Speaker of English L2 Isa Baba Zanna, Ahmed Hajja Karu, Grema Yagana Department of Language and Liberal Studies, Ramat Polytechnic, Maiduguri, Nigeria Online published on 4 April, 2015. Abstract This work focuses on the pronunciation of some English consonant sounds by Arabic native speakers of English L2. We found out that there are some consonant sounds in English language which did not exist in Arabic language, and difficult for many Arabic speakers to pronounce them. These difficulties are influenced by the mother tongue interference where there is change in patterns such as voicing, devoicing, fricating, trillization among others.
