Spatial dimensions of higher education in India

Abstract

Education is a blaze amongst the darkness of poverty and underdevelopment and higher education touch is the torch which if lit properly can fight the long darkness. With the largest young generation population country, India has an immense scope to device it as a contributor of development. India with the highest number of higher education institutions is still away from the desired aim. Uneven distribution of such institutions is also regarded as a determining issue for the lagging other than poverty, unemployment and social norms. Selection of streams, gender parity index, pupil teacher ratio also depicts the direction of desired aim. With the help of simple statistical technique the author has tried to being fourth the present situation in the context of India. Lastly, we cannot deny the fact about the importance of quality education necessary for individuals and often the results are before hand with foreign students opting to higher educate themselves in India.
