Online published on 7 February, 2013. Abstract The relevance of job satisfaction and motivation are very crucial to the long-term growth of any educational system around the globe. Obtaining and retaining quality teachers is a continuing concern that is facing educational leaders at all levels. A dissatisfied teacher spells disaster to the country's future. Dissatisfaction among the workers is undesirable and dangerous in any profession. The purpose of the study was to analyze the job satisfaction of Physical Education Directors working in First Grade Colleges Karnataka State. The subjects for the present study were 720 Directors of Physical Education working in First Grade Colleges under the jurisdiction of four universities of Karnataka State. To assess job satisfaction a reliable and standard questionnaire constructed by R.N. Kahungo (1982) (r=.81) was used. The responses to the questionnaire were collected by the researcher in person from the randomly selected Director's of Physical education who were working in the first grade colleges. The data on job satisfaction of physical education directors of Karnataka state on the prescribed point scale was converted in to percentage for analysis. The findings reveal that, a majority of physical education directors of Karnataka State in first grade colleges felt moderately satisfied with the amount of security they have in their job and with the chance of future promotion they have in their job. A big majority of the physical education directors of Karnataka State in first grade colleges feel extremely satisfied with the kind benefits plans (vacation, retirement, medicals and so on) that go with their job. A Majority of physical education directors of Karnataka State in first grade colleges feel extremely satisfied with the kind of working conditions surrounding their job. Similarly they were moderately satisfied with the considerate and sympathetic nature of their immediate superior. It is evident from the results that a big majority of physical education directors are moderately satisfied with the amount of recognition and respect that they receive for their work. It is evident from the findings that, a big majority of physical education directors of Karnataka State in first grade colleges feel extremely satisfied with the opportunity for acquiring higher skill. As far as the amount of salary they receive for the work they do, majority of physical education directors were mildly satisfied and a very few were extremely satisfied. it can be concluded that the physical education directors working in first grade colleges of Karnataka state show moderate to full satisfaction in their job related matters.
