Analgesic transdermal therapeutic system: A market survey Junaid Abdullah Bin, Ph.D Scholar, Dr. Nasreen Reshma, Associate Professor Department of Management, Jamia Hamdard New Delhi, India. Online published on 10 July, 2012. Abstract The study focuses on the survey on transdermal patch therapy through various specialized doctors who were practicing in reputed hospitals of Delhi. Doctors surveyed under the study were cardiologist, orthopedics, surgeons, oncologist and general physicians. This survey was carried out to find out the various factors which are associated with transdermal patch therapy and to see what hurdles come into its acceptance. The first prescription patch therapy was approved by the U.S food and Drug Administration way back in December 1979, which administers scopolamine for motion sickness. This study has been done through face to face conversation with fifty doctors/physicians specialized in their field and who were prescribing these patches, in different hospitals of Delhi. These interviews were beneficial in comparatively analyzing the pros and cons of traditional methods of drug administration. A randomized controlled trial was done to evaluate the impact of transdermal therapy for pain. This study found that 60% doctors in Delhi prescribe these pain patches for different types of pain such as Angina pain, Orthopedic pain, Oncological pain etc. The study tells us that one major problem associated with this therapy is the Indian climate which is humid and leads to decrease in drug absorption from these patches. Here we also found that hairy skin also decreases the drug absorption. The doctors are less aware about the usage of these patches. Patient compliance and fewer side effects come out as advantages of this therapy over oral therapy. Top Keywords Compliance, Transdermal, Transdermal Therapy, Patches, Pain. Top | |
