Online published on 9 April, 2012. Abstract Till independence, educational scenario in Arunachal Pradesh was extremely pitiable with only four primary schools with literacy rate below one percent. Nevertheless, a humble start was made right from the first five year plan despite, formidable constrictions like inaccessibility of territory, widespread ignorance among people and customary dependence on children for domestic and fieldwork etc. Currently, she is the home to 24 educational institutes under aegis of Higher Education and amazingly, census record reveals epoch-making growth of literacy rate of the state. The Higher Education System of Arunachal Pradesh has grown up in a remarkable way, particularly in the post-independence period giving adequate turns to many issues at present, like financing, management, accessibility, equity, relevance, reorientation of programmes by laying emphasis on health consciousness, values and ethics and quality of Higher Education with intense conviction on periodical assessment of institutions and their accreditation thereof. In this paper an attempt has been made to discuss present status of Higher Education in Arunachal Pradesh in terms of its management, composition and expansion respectively.
