Abstract Molybdenum (VI) forms a greenish Yellow Coloured water soluble complex with Diacetyl Monoxime Isonicotinoylhydrazone(DMIH) reagent in acidic buffer PH 5.0 with λmax at 346 nm. The molar absorptivity and sandell's sensitivity are 1.93 X 104 L.mol−1. cm−1 and 0.00259067 μg/cm2 respectively. The Beer's law validity range is 0.48 to 5.76 μg/ml. The optimum concentration range is 0.96 – 4.8 μg/ml. Molybdenum (VI) forms (M:L) 1:1 complex with DMIH and stability constant of the complex is 4.731 X 106. The derivative spectrophotometric determination of Mo(VI) was carried out by measuring peak height method. The developed derivative spectrophotometric method was employed for the determination of Molybdenum (VI) in synthetic samples of alloy samples. The effect of various diverse ions was also studied.
