Abstract

Ozone, a potential oxidant has become the most important innovation for ultimate treatment of all types of organic/inorganic impurities in water and waste water by oxidation process. It can be safely and effectively used for the decolourization of effluents from pulp and paper industry. Kinetics of decolourization of post oxygen stage effluent of pulp and paper industry using bamboo and hardwood (20: 80) as furnish has been studied at temperature range 3050°C using laboratory generated ozone. The ozonization reactions follow a first order disappearance of colour and the first order rate constant increases with increase in ozone concentration. An attempt has been made to study the impact of pH, temperature, catalyst and ionic strength on the kinetics of ozone induced decolourization of paper industry effluents.
