Abstract Stock Exchange creates a favorable environment for easy stock trading thus the traders can trade with stocks and other securities. One of the critical issues in the enterprise is how to invest in the stock market. The efficiency of afirm is also a factor that helps the investor in the investment process. In this paper we attempted to assess the efficiency of listed companies in Tehran Stock Exchange in Iran. From a modern view, the assessment focuses on development and improvement of a firm. The assessment not only helps investors but also helped their evaluated firms and organization and guides them. We also prioritized decision making units with Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) method. Rankings identify strengths and weaknesses of firms as well as opportunities and risks of investing in them. According to the results obtained from CCR-Input and CCR-Output models in 2009 and 2010, only 15 and 12 companies were efficient, respectively. Also companies, according to their efficiency scores were ranked on an annual basis as: Pars Pamchal, Pars Khazar, Khark Petrochemical Company, Tehran Darou, Daroupakhsh, Saipa, Sarnaft, SimanBehbahan, Razi Pharmaceutical Glass, Isfahan Mobarakeh Steel, Sahand Tire, Bafegh Mines, and Behran Oil, respectively. As we observed, the majority of companies with higher ranks or the best function, considering 69 percent of superior companies are rely on oil sources and subterraneous mines of the country which include free first raw material or in the other hand the subsidies.
