Abstract Enormously complex and dynamic nature of the economic environment, there is a growing body of evidence that suggests sensitiveness of profitability for the development banks today. The purpose of this study was to interpret the profitability with the primary determinants of profitability of the development bank (SIDBI) to be examined and understood. To accomplish this purpose, a multi regression analyses is done. In this study, using the most recent data available for the period 2006–2011, we examined the profitability of the Small Industrial Development Bank of India. Applying key profitability ratios to assess the efficiency of mobilization and utilization of funds and regressed the factors affecting profitability. A critical review of the relevant peer-reviewed, scholarly and organizational literature is followed by an analysis of the statistical data for SIDBI.
