Abstract

The development of handicrafts in society was the sign of the cultivation of sensitivity in Assam. Like many parts in Assam, the Sivasagar district is known as the land of colorful handicraft products. The weaving, textile, jewelry, pottery, wood working, stone carving, sital parti, doll making, toy making, bell-metal, ivory works, tannery works, leather works, cane works and bamboo works are important handicrafts in the district. Handicrafts have been playing a prominent role in the cultural, social and economic development in the Sivasagar. There is lack of proper facility which stands on the way of expansion and modernization of handicraft products in rural areas in the Sivasagar district of Assam.
