Abstract The objective of this paper is to analyze the present production status, growth and performance of mineral production in Odisha. The study is based on secondary data collected from economic survey of Odisha, mineral statistics of Odisha, and different mining companies. In terms of geological distribution of mineral resources of India, about 10–40% of mineral production comes from state of Odisha. Mineral and mineral industries have significant macro links with the which has 16.92% of the total reserve of the country. The value of mineral production increased from 2000–01 to 2011–12. i.e. from Rs. 2776 crore to Rs. 30204 crore. The export of mineral resources also increased from 2000–01 to 2007–08 and thereafter it declined up to 2009–10. Odisha has vast potential to extract mineral resource and earn foreign exchange.
