Human Resource Management in the Light of Globalization - Issues and Challenges for HR Managers

Abstract

The present day world belongs to an era of globalization. The nations are no more bound to restrict their activities within their geographical limits or boundaries. The global trade and cooperation between countries has turned the entire world into a global village, resulting in steeper and tougher competition between the firms to gain the competitive advantage. This scenario of complex and competitive environment has lead to the origin and growth of International Human Resource Management. Moreover, with the emergence and rapid growth of MNC's from past few decades, there has been continuous and increased thrust on the human resource element in the organizations. People are no more treated as mere cogs to an end. The human resource in any organization irrespective of size and type, are considered as an indispensable part and are valued over and above all other resources in the organizations. The success of any organization is believed to be dependent on the effectiveness and the efficiency with which its workforce carries out its operations. This phenomenon of rising concern towards human resource by business firms all over the world has lead to the development of human resource management as separate field of study and practice. The HR departments have gained much importance and are now being considered as strategic business partners to align the HR function with the mission, vision and strategies of the business concern.
