Abstract Sustainable consumption can be defined as the use of products and services which are meant to fulfill the basic needs and provide a better quality life along with minimum utilization of natural resources, unwanted or undesired supplies and discharge of various wastes and pollutants over the life cycle without harming the requirements of upcoming generations. This research article covers the concept of sustainable consumption, its position in India, its need, the challenges ahead the same and possible framework for the action of sustainable consumption.
