Abstract

The process of higher education needs to be complemented with additional skills that are relevant to student's future choice of profession, thus enabling the students to make use of higher education in its totality. This study is pertaining to the Indian scenario but can be applicable to the overall gamut of HE (Higher education).

HE is meant to prepare the youth to contribute to the overall development of ones’ country by pursuing a chosen profession and using maximally the skills that are imparted to him/her during the process of higher education. But unfortunately, today, the education process does not wholly prepare the students to contribute to this national goal, instead it is limited to bookish and theoretical knowledge/information that fail to equip the students fully to face the real challenges of life. With changing times and increasing competition, job demands have grown, but the capability found in the employees is unsatisfactory. The range of skills set needed by companies that compete at the global level has undergone drastic change, and Higher Education has to take into account the demands of the 2nd decade of the 21st century with a proactive approach. The recommendations put forth in this paper will make HE more wholesome and prepare the students for a longstanding relation with the corporate.
