Abstract

India is a rapidly developing democratic country. At one side Indicators of development and governance are shining and ignoring the other side. “According to Wagner's law, activities of government increase as well as economy increase”, it means at one side burden on government is increasing and on other side some parts of economy is slipping out of the hands of the government which results into dissatisfactory growth of every section. In the name of development major part of population is rapidly leaving behind as indicates by Gini-coefficient index in 2009–10 in which (URP) was 0.291 and 0.382 in rural and urban respectively* means poor people has uplifted but less than top 25% people i.e. power is centralizing into few hands and these households are parent drivers of economy and this handful of people has converted the socialistic India into capitalistic.

Changing trends in consumption patterns which directly affects the lifestyle of the people has also led to increasing health risks to people and biological diversity. And it has put bigger question mark on the needs of future generation. India is entering in to 12th- Five years plan with the agenda of fast, sustainable and inclusive growth. To full-fill these agendas good governance and honest administration are most required that would give sustainable development. This paper examines that does India really have good governance and becoming the way to sustainable development. This is done through giving lights on challenges of good governance in India.
