Online published on 11 May, 2012. Abstract Property Management System Practices have emerged an important aspect in the hospitality industry, globally. In India, hospitality industry creates more than 27 million jobs and encompasses various hotels (Chain and Independent Hotels). Chain and Independent Hotels play a significant role to support the success of the hotel industry in India. However, most of the Chain and Independent Hotel operators face numerous constraints and difficulties in running their businesses. This paper has two fold purposes: to investigate property management practices in Indian hotel enterprises, and to compare these practices in chain and independent hotels operating in India (NCR region). Survey was conducted among 200 Front Office Managers of similar kind of businesses. The data was collected from four major parts of National Capital Region, namely New Delhi, Gurgaon, Faridabad, Noida, Panipat. The finding of the research indicates that the Property Management Practices used by various chain hotels in India are much better than used by independent Hotels. Finally the article provides useful findings for policymakers to improve the existing policies for hotel industry in India.
