Online published on 5 June, 2014. Abstract Gastro intestinal stromal tumor (GIST) is the most common mesenchymal tumors of the gastro intestinal tract. They are typically defined as tumors whose behavior are given by mutations in the KIT gene or PDGFRA gene and may or may not stain positively for KIT. Standard treatment for primary GIST is complete surgical resection, with the aim to obtain negative microscope margins over the organ of origin.
