Contribution of Farm Women in Agriculture in Maharashtra Yadav J.P., Pawar B.N., Kale N.K. Department of Agricultural Economics, College of Agriculture, Pune-411 005, Maharashtra Online published on 10 September, 2013. Abstract The contribution of farm-women in agricultural production has been studied by collecting primary data from 160 families in the Purandhar tehsil of Pune district in Maharshtra during the year 2011–12. The data were analyzed to find the share of farm-women in various off-farm and on-farm operations using employment function. The study has revealed that employment of women-workers was for 572 person-days per farm. In livestock-bearing, the contribution of women-workers increased with increase in farm-size. The study has brought out that livestock-bearing and crop production were the major sources of employment for women-workers, whereas offfarm employment opportunities were meagre. One of the major constraints faced by farm-women was the lack of knowledge in farming. Therefore, efforts should be made to organize training programmes for their capacity building and knowledge upgradation. The development of agro-based industries and cottage industries will help in generating employment and income opportunities for the farm-women in the study area.
