Abstract The growth trends and factors influencing the growth in crop, livestock, fishery and forestry sectors of Karnataka's four divisions, viz. Gulbarga, Belgaum, Mysore and Bangalore, have been analyzed. The compound annual growth rates were computed to assess the growth trends in different sectors, while Cobb Douglas production function was specified to find out the factors determining the development of the individual sectors. The study has revealed that crops sector has diversified towards high-value crops such as fruits and vegetables. In the livestock sector, poultry population and improved hen egg production have shown tremendous increase across the divisions compared to other livestock. The fish production has exhibited a declining trend, while growth in forest outturn has been found negative throughout the study period. The acreage, fertilizer consumption and net irrigated area have positively and significantly influenced the crop sector, while egg production was being influenced by the number of layers, maize production and number of regulated markets. The milk production was determined by the number of crossbred cows, artificial insemination centres, total institutional agricultural credit and area under cereals.
