Abstract With increasing demand of timber and wood, bamboo can serve as an alternative to many of the forest products. Its wide range of uses and its versatility make it to be a of multiple uses, which will add considerably to the rural agricultural economy subsequently alleviating the status of poor. Since it grows fast and multiplies in a similar ratio, it is a renewable source of material for many sectors, including construction material, kitchen objects such as cutting boards and dinner ware, paper, decorations, towels and clothing. It is becoming more popular for garden fences and furniture. Bamboo also has beauty, hardiness and durability, making it a good alternative to traditional woods. This plant is not only used as a material, but can also be used as a food for both humanbeings and animals. To utilize its full potential in terms of utilities and money generation and to produce better quality in accordance with the soil and climate type, the state is providing trainings, financial aids and schemes. The setting up of Bamboo Missions, by other sister states of the region will accelerate bamboo development and consequently income to poor farmers.
