Instruction to Author

Scope and purpose

Applied Biological Research offers a mean of prompt publication of original research papers and short communications dealing all aspects of applied biological sciences viz. agriculture, veterinary, ecology and environment, medical science, biotechnology and other applied biological fields. Review articles of paramount significance in biological sciences may also be considered. However, authors are advised to seek prior consent from Chief Editor for submission of a review article.

Manuscript submission

Three copies of manuscript, complete in all respects including figures and tables, should be submitted to the Chief Editor, Applied Biological Research, Centre for Advancement of Applied Sciences (CAAS), Shalimar, Srinagar (J&K)-191 121 either by surface mail or via e-mail caas.abr@gmail.com. The manuscripts can also be submitted online http://www.indianjournals.com Contribution should be concise and must not exceed eight printed pages including tables and illustrations in case of full length paper and four printed pages in case of short communication. Manuscript may also be submitted on diskette, using any major word processing software. The diskette should be clearly labeled with the author’s name, the title of the article and the software used.

Copyright

Submission of a manuscript implies that the:

1. Work described has neither been published before (except in the form of abstract or as a part of lecture or thesis) nor is under consideration for publication elsewhere.

2. This publication has been approved by all authors as well as by the responsible authorities at the institute where the work has been carried out.

3. If and when the manuscript is accepted for publication, the authors agree to automatic transfer of the copyright to the publisher.

4. The manuscript will not be published elsewhere in any language without the consent of the copyright holder;

5. Written permission for the materials used from other copyrighted sources; has been obtained by the authors and that any costs associated with obtaining this permission are the author’s responsibility.

The manuscript submitted for publication should invariably be accompanied by a certificate from authors reflecting the above points. The papers without above certificate will not be published in the journal.

Review process

All manuscripts are reviewed by the editorial board as well as by qualified reviewers from the concerned field.

Format of the paper

Manuscript should be in English typed double space on good quality A-4 size bond paper with ample margin on left side. The manuscripts may be organized as under:

Title: It should be short, specific, informative and written in capital letters. Name (s) of author (s) should be written on the next line after the title followed by the address of the institution where the work was done. Each author’s affiliation or a footnote indicating the present address of any author no longer at the institution at which the work was performed be also given. The title of the paper, name (s) of author (s), complete address (including telephone number and e-mail address) and a short running title may also be given on a separate page. If the research paper is a part of M. Sc. or Ph. D thesis submitted to any University/organization, it is obligatory upon the authors to mention the same as a footnote on the very first page.

Abstract: It should contain a summary of main findings of work & conclusions and should not exceed 150 words.

Key words: It should follow the abstract. A maximum of ten key words relevant to the work be given. Abstract and key words may be given on a separate page.

Introduction: Beginning with a new page, it should be brief and limited to the statement of the problem/ objectives and aims of the experiments with brief review of literature pertinent to the type of work.

Materials and methods: It should include relevant details on the nature of material, experimental design, the techniques employed and the statistical methods used. Well-established procedures need not to be described instead relevant references be cited. However, new methods or modifications of previous published methods, if any, may be fully described. Be sure that sufficient information is given to allow others to repeat the experiments.

Results and Discussion: It should include important findings discussed briefly. Wherever necessary, elaborate on the tables and figures without repeating their contents. Interpret the findings in view of the results obtained in this and in past studies on this topic. State the conclusions in a few sentences at the end of the paper.

Acknowledgements (if necessary): It must be precise and put at the end but prior to references.

References: All text references must be cited as (Bhat, 1991; Mir and Wani, 1992; Malik et al., 1995). At the end of the paper all the references should be given in alphabetic order according to the surname of the first author. The complete name of the journal cited be given. The specimen for quoting references is given below:

Tables: It should be typed on separate sheets and numbered consecutively in Arabic numbers. Each table should have a heading stating its contents clearly and concisely. Foot note to tables should be referred to by italic superscript letters beginning with ‘a’ in each table.

Figures: It should be of good quality and neatly drawn in black Indian ink on good quality tracing paper. The captions of the figures should be typed on a separate page. The figures should not exceed 18 x 15 cm size.

Photographs: The photographs for publication should be of high contrast on glossy paper without folds or creases. Each illustration or plate should be as a separate sheet with the name(s) of author(s) and figure number printed lightly with soft pencil on the reverse side.

Equations & units: All equations should be type written. Mathematical notations should be simple and suitable for multi-disciplinary audience. All data should be in metric units with single decimals. The data must be accompanied with statistical analysis. The papers not conforming to the above format will be returned without processing.

Computer disks

Author(s) have also to submit a computer disk containing the final revised version of the paper along with the manuscript to the editorial office. Please observe the following criteria:

1. Send only the hard copy (print-out) in triplicate when first submitting your paper.

2. When your paper has been reviewed, revised if necessary and accepted, send a disk containing the final version with the final hard copy. Make sure that the disk and the hard copy match exactly.

3. Specify what software was used, including which release, e.g. Windows 3.1, Page Maker 5.0 and Microsoft Word.

4. Include the text file and separate table and illustration files, if available.

5. The file should follow the general instructions on style/ arrangement and, in particular, the references style of this journal as given in the “instructions to the authors”.

6. The file should be single spaced and should use the wrap-around end-of-line feature i.e. no returns at the end of each line. All textural elements should begin flush left. Place two returns after every element such as title heading, paragraphs, figures and table call-outs.

7. Keep a back-up disk for reference and safety.

Reprints

The authors shall have to bear nominal processing charges once paper is accepted for publication. The authors interested to purchase reprints should send their reprint requests at the time of submission of revised manuscript.
