A bibliometric analysis of corporate governance: Historical research from indian citation index database

Background: Bibliometric is a research method used in library and information sciences. It is also applied to the historical research analysis. India has developed Indian Citation Index (ICI) to conduct bibliometric analysis. ICI database is covering the data from the year 2004 to 2017 from top Indian scholarly journals. ICI enables a researcher to determine the status of research and development from every States/Union Territories of India. The current data status of ICI as per their release note on 30 November 2017 is the current Index paper title count stands at 613 thousand, their paper-wise reference count is at11.62 million, and it was indexed from 1031 total journals from India. In this study, ICI is used for historical research on Corporate Governance from the year 2004 to 2017. Method: The complimentary access was provided by IndianCitationIndex.com to access the database. ICI database (www.indiancitationindex.com) was searched on 7 November 2017 for publications that contained specific word regarding ‘Corporate Governance’ from the year 2004 to 2017. The Internet facility was provided by Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Division, Gujarat National Law University, Gandhinagar. Results: ICI database have given a total number of 255 articles on ‘Corporate Governance’ from the year 2004 to 2017. Among these 255 articles of various types, like research articles, case study, review article, etc., research articles were comprised of 88% in total document types. The contribution was shared in various subject categories, where ‘Management’, ‘Business and Marketing’, ‘Economics’ and ‘Social Science’ have shown the highest contribution. Top authors in Corporate Governance-related work were identified. Top most journals for publication of work related to corporate governance were published in Asian Journal of Research in Banking and Finance, Journal of Interdisciplinary Economics and Asian Journal of Research in Business Economics and Management. The contribution was classified as state/union territories (UTs)-wise entries across the nation. Among 36 state/UTs, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh and Gujarat were top most state/UTs for contribution on Corporate Governance. Conclusion: These findings will help the readers to get a quick overview on current and historical status of research on Corporate Governance.
