NREGS and its impact in the promotion of socio-economic development of rural folk: A case study of Nuapara district in Odisha Das Suratha Kumar, Lecturer Department of Commerce, Kandarpur College, Cuttack, Odisha, suratha_das39@rediffmail.com Online published on 25 May, 2012. Abstract The National Rural Employment Guarantee Act, the flagship welfare programme of the Government was passed by the Parliament in August 2005. NREGA has enshrined employment for rural households as a constitutional right. It also aims at creation of tangible assets to generate “economies of scale” and thus add income creation through a multiplier projects and development of natural resources and creation of livelihood assets. The present study is undertaken with the following objectives:(i)analyse the performance of implementation of NREGS(ii) to study effectiveness of NREGS in employment generation. The previous studies covering various dimensions of NREGS are consolidated to strengthen base for the present study. The present study is an attempt to evaluate effectiveness of NREGS in Nuapada district in the state of Odisha.
